Tastes & Smells Like
Red apple skin, Korean pear, cherry cough drops, soft green herbs (summer savory, tarragon, Thai basil)
Vineyard Sources
Finnigan Hill Vineyard (Laurelwood District AVA), Certified Organic farming practices
Windfall is a barrel selection of the two best barrels for the vintage from Finnigan Hill Vineyard, our highest-elevation Pinot noir site near Bald Peak in the Chehalem Mountains. Planted on a historic orchard, some old apple, pear, and plum trees remain on the property nearby the vines. We know the grapes are ready when the old trees are dripping their fruit onto the dry grass, sweet treats for the farm's resident fowl. (Take up owner Carrie on her sign advertising free duck eggs, they are indeed perfect for crème brûlée!) The wines from Finnigan Hill are exquisitely transparent, but the paleness in color belies the intensity of aroma and flavor. 60% wholecluster, 40% destemmed grapes were fermented naturally for a few weeks before pressing, and rested in neutral oak barrels for 16 months.
