Our first-ever reserve wine, Beautiful Grandpa is a barrel selection of the four best barrels from the cellar from our first year at the vineyard, sourced exclusively from Harvey Shafer's original 1974 Pinot noir plantings. We call the wine Beautiful Grandpa in homage to the thick, gnarled trunks of these nearly fifty-year-old vines, draped with electric green moss like shaggy beards or ill-fitting toupées. Made with 50% wholecluster inclusion and 50% destemmed fruit, the wine was allowed to naturally ferment for a few weeks before pressing, where it rested in barrel for 16 months.
