‘Beautiful Grandpa’ No Clos Radio Pinot Noir

Originally planted in 1974 as Shafer Vineyard Cellars, No Clos Radio is home to exceptionally old vines—a rarity in the Willamette Valley. The vines are grown in windblown loess over marine sediment and volcanic deposits.

We first visited in the winter of 2020. Even in the misting, sideways rain, the sight of the thick, gnarly trunks draped in electric green moss convinced us we needed to work with this fruit. We affectionately call these weathered plants "Beautiful Grandpas."

The resulting Pinot Noir is richly concentrated with notable weight and tannic structure. This bottling of ‘Beautiful Grandpa’ represents our favorite barrel from No Clos Radio, bottled on its own to showcase this special place.
